Prank your friends with a fake kernel panic

Little is dreaded more in the Mac world than the kernel panic, the Mac OS X equivalent of the Windows Blue Screen of Death. Mac software developer DoomLaser has released a great prank to play on any Mac using friends or colleagues in the form of a screen saver that emulates a kernel panic. The effect is very realistic, complete with the slow screen draw and the multilingual kernel panic text. Thankfully, real kernel panics are rare, but that won’t stop you from having some fun with this sneaky replica of Mac computing disaster.

For best results you’ll probably want to sneak onto the victims machine and install KPSaver and then set an appropriate time for the screen saver to activate. Check out the YouTube video below for a visual demonstration on how KPSaver works.

Good idea, but I’m afraid not new.

I would have imagined that since mac started using the unix kernel they’d know about the standard BSOD screen saver.

I have to admit that the screensavers alone are half of what made me try linux, but seriously it was pretty much a stock option in most distros.

Good rearticulation of the idea though.

I’m a big fan of the inverted color trick, drives my co-workers nuts.
