I take it that you will soon have an .iso or .dmg image to download the OS X 10.7 Lion Hackintosh. Is there a possible release date. I am sure you will get a lot of help from around the world to contribute to the new cat. Well all I can say is good luck and God Speed. Let hackintosh freedom ring!!!!

Apple’s major OS X releases are named after “big cats”. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_cat).

That’s really about it.

(For comparison: Ubuntu Linux releases are named after animals, in alphabetical order; Debian Linux releases are named after ‘Toy Story’ characters, in no apparent order; and Microsoft Windows, in roughly the same time period as OS X, has had ME, XP, Vista, and 7.)

At least it is better than Microsoft’s naming scheme for their OS. 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 – Not to mention the Home, Business, Ultimate, etc varieties. The only thing consistent with it is the word “Windows” . It all seems rather schizophrenic to me.

Rusty, wherever you got this information is very misinformed. Cheetahs are the fastest land animal living so that kind of puts an end to that theory. Personally I like the naming convention for OS X, it adds a little flavor to it.

I have read that the names are in order of fastest. Each version is named with a faster cat then the last one. As for snow leopard, the OS was only an overhaul of leopard so they just added to the name and it was snow leopard.
