I got the bundle a few days ago from a fellow Mac user in my Mac users group. The bundle is pretty slick so far albeit incomplete for people like me who still use PPC Mac's and OSX Tiger... All but a few of the apps are 10.5+ or Intel only.

A day or two later I got a email from the MacHeist people who added Intego VirusBarrier X5 to the bundle. I got the download, installed it, and registered it. VBX5 seems to work on my Mac of course I am not sure how accurate it is, after a complete 4hr scan it came up with no Viri, no Trojans, no Worms etc. Which I expected. It is however good to have that software, as I use My Mac routinely in a LAN of several Windows computers, with files transferring all over
I had hoped for something more robust than ClamXav which I have used many times in the past.

I bought the macheist packages the past couple years. There's nothing I really want in this year's bunch, sadly. I almost never buy software, so while some devs might complain that they lost money, I think a lot of sales that came from macheist were from people like me who would never have otherwise purchased in the first place.

You're right, free is the best price, but these apps are worth real money.

While I appreciate the free great applications, MacHeist is an awful program for developers. It gives them publicity and users, but they get no money for it, in this case literally zero. In the past it's a fraction of the normal price of an app, and this time it's nothing. It's a total shame, but what do you expect when you have a couple kids running a company? The 15 year old founders are getting rich and professional developers are going out of business, it's awful it gets so much publicity.

I'm a software engineer, I have 15 years of experience, I have invested my life into this field, and the same goes for my coworkers and friends. I personally know a developer who participated in MacHeist in the past and they said it wound up a disaster for them for reasons you can probably imagine.

Enjoy the free software, but know it comes with serious consequences for software developers.
