Well it seems that more than 4GB may cause instability in the system for the late 2008 model. My macbook is running fine, and don't really need 8GB.

@Chris
Actually there are reports of people with your model who got 8GB working, for instance on Amazon.de (german):

http://www.amazon.de/Samsung-Channel-DDR3-1066-PC3-8500-SO-DIMM/dp/B0034PO3FG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295958410&sr=8-1

I'm sorry I don't know more about it myself. Maybe someone else got additional information?

Make sure your mac can support more RAM. I almost bought 8GB of RAM for my macbook unibody (late 2008 model) and found out it supports a max of 4GB. Here is a website to check if your mac can support this 8GB upgrade.

@ronster
the applecare would still be valid however if anything goes wrong, applecare would not cover the ram you brought as it is from an external vendor. Also any damages caused due to the the swapping of ram is your own fault too.
Anyway, thanks for the tip, just ordered mine. Have been contemplating for quite a while.

Thanks! In for one.. should I keep the old memory? Is my AppleCare warranty still valid after swapping it out? I could keep the old memory and if I run into any warranty issues put it back in the Macbook Pro before visiting the genius bar.
