Because some people need better specifications then the macbook air can deliver. And I use a disc driver every day so the air is not for me.

If the 3rd generation MBA's due this summer DO have the Core i5, and even possibly an i7 as I have read rumored, and at least 4GB of memory, (of course 8 is better) then I will be going this route too. I don't need to carry around a DVD burner with me. The fact that every thing is hard coded to silicon from start and can not do any thing about the upgrading RAM and storage, better get the properly spec'd machine from the outset. It's why I held off on 2nd generation Macbook Airs. 2GB of RAM? A joke! and, to regress back to Core2Duo in the interest of progress? Another joke. Let's hope that Gen3 of MBA gets it right. Then, we can all do away with S.J.'s 'trucks', and move on to automobiles. :-)

nah... I guess it all depends on your needs... Until time comes when Air's RAM and SSD are upgradeable, I guess I won't go that way...

i5 CPU... 8GB RAM... SandForce controlled SSD (not just any SSD)... and of course, a dedicated GPU.
