Mac Setups: Macs Rule at this Network Operations Center

Many Macs at a desk

This awesome Mac setup comes from one of our readers, Rob Abraham. From the left to the right we have: 2GHz Dual-Core Hackintosh with 4GB RAM and 2TB of disk space hooked up to two displays, iPhone 4, MacBook Pro 13″ with 8GB RAM and a 500GB hybrid drive connected to the 24″ LCD to the right reading OSXDaily (woohoo!), and a MacBook Air 13″ with a 128GB SSD. Don’t miss the wireless keyboard, magic trackpad, or Starbucks iced coffee to keep the human side of things cruising along either.

But that’s not all, to the left of this Mac heavy desk there’s another Mac Pro connected to a 37″ TV and two additional 22″ monitors that display network status and latency from their datacenter (image below):

External Monitors and a TV driven by a Mac Pro

Sweet office and a sweet Mac setup! I’m going to take a wild guess and assume that Rob is a network engineer with all of this great equipment. Thanks for sending this in Rob!

Argh, please somebody move that coffee cup, it gives me the fear just seeing it that close to those two Macbooks, it’s just waiting for that one ‘whoops’ moment we all get once a year.

actually, more specifically – the big screen’s software is run inside of a browser, its a php/ajax real-time (every 1 second) updated latency display of critical points inside our network, the response times are updated instantly without reloading the entire page.

the graph you see in there is a custom backend that updates also in real time (pulls snmp traffic data and updates an SVG graph)

All of the network monitoring software is custom written in house, if you can tell me what you’re monitoring, I can point you in the right direction.

Kinda under utilizing that Mac Pro aren’t we? I’ll trade you a Mac Mini straight up for it, help you cut down on your electric bill.
