Apple Back to School Promo 2011

Apple has launched their annual Back to School Promo for 2011, this year the offer includes a free $100 App Store credit. To qualify for the $100 Back to School promo, you must be a college student or teacher of any grade level, and you must make an eligible Mac purchase through Apple’s education store anytime between June 16 and September 20, 2011.

If you buy a Mac directly from an Apple Store, it sounds like you’ll get the credit immediately in the form of a redeemable gift card, otherwise it will ship with your order from the online store. The cards are said to work on both the Mac and iOS App Stores, as well as the iTunes Store and iBookstore. It’s also worth mentioning that any Mac bought from now onward also qualifies for a free upgrade to Mac OS X Lion when it is released next month.

Some international Apple Stores are also participating, MacRumors says the UK is getting £65 promo cards and the rest of the EU will receive €75 App Store credits.

Disappointing! Microsoft is giving out the Xbox 360 for ANY Windows 7 PC over $700 and Apple hands out a card to download some music??

Yeah, I’m pretty angry. My iPod touch has had a cracked screen for the last 6 months, and I have been wanting to upgrade my MacBook Pro because its from 2008, and I’ve been specifically waiting for the back to school promo so I can get the free iPod touch, and they offer me a measly $100 for the app store? I get it, students need apps, but offer the iPod touch, or $200 to the app store, or even $150. $100 is not that much money, especially when they have been giving away $229 iPod touches for the last few years, and when Microsoft is giving away Xbox 360s. Very disappointing apple. Very disappointing.

Last year I bought a 15in Macbook Pro, I got a free ipod touch, and got a $100 rebate off of any printer, plus $100-150 (forgot the actually number) off of any Adobe CS5 collections (the student/teacher price) so really, if they aren’t throwing in more offers then this really is lack luster in comparison to Microsoft’s $200 xbox. Although I know why they are pushing their App Store, people feel like they get better deals when they can see what they are getting (like a printer, and Ipod, etc.) like what Ian said.

Microsoft is throwing out Xbox 360’s and Apple decides to reduce their iPod touch offering to a $100 gift card? Like it or not, the Xbox offer sounds a lot more appealing. People like free tangible hardware.

Nice offer, hope to get that 100 app store credit before classes starts..
