iOS 5 Beta 3

Apple has released iOS 5 beta 3 for developers to download, the build comes as 9A5259f and supports iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 4 GSM & CDMA, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 3rd & 4th generations. Apple TV2 has received a separate update, however it is still not considered iOS 5.

Alongside the latest iOS 5 beta comes a new version of iTunes 10.5 at beta 3, which seems to be required to sync iTunes with your iOS 5 beta 3 devices.

You can download the latest beta directly from iOS Dev Center, as usual you will need an active developer ID to access the files.

    Will this Brick the Phone?

    Answer
    – And remain on iOS5 without developer sub, Yes
    – Unless you use jail breaking means to be able to use it
    – Or subscribe to be an iOS dev
    – or know of another way to activate it
    Downgrading
    – Yes, but be sure to grab you shsh blobs first (TinyUmbrella)
    – Learn how to put your phone in recovery mode as well
    – Do a complete backup of your phone in iTunes
    – Also make sure you have a copy of iOS 4.3.3 (this is still signed by apple and should go more smoothly the filename should be something like iPhone3,1_4.3.3_8J2_Restore.ipsw

I am making assumptions that you are trying an iPhone 4 GSM and not a 3GS or Verizon iPhone 4 (CDMA) 4.2.8 for it’s firmware

    Another quick note

From what I have been reading you will need:

iOS 5 beta [1,2 or 3] and the corresponding version of iTunes 10.5 beat [1, 2 or 3]

Also keep in mind if you restore you may loose your icon placement folders and it may take quite some time to do this process.

There has been a LOT of interest generated for IOS5, but I’m not a developer and I don’t want to take a chance on trashing my $ iPad by jailbreaking it – so when will the real release for the public happen? Anyone have any inside news they care to share?

    Thanks
