iOS 5.0.1 Beta 2

Apple is working quickly to release iOS 5.0.1 to the general public, with the second beta version available to developers in just two days. The update aims to resolve some of the complaints about iOS 5 battery life and bring several other fixes and features to the latest release, including a security fix for iPad 2 and bringing multitasking gestures to iPad 1.

The build comes as 9A404 and is available for iPad, iPad 2, iPod touch 3rd and 4th gen, and iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S.

If you are not a developer but are encountering issues with inconsistent battery life, try some of these general battery tips or these focused specifically on the iPhone 4S.

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen with iOS 5.0.1 and I’m still having issues with the battery. I would be using mu iPod unplugged and then I get the warning that it’s almost out of juice. Turn off the screen, check 1 minute later and the battery magically has 80% charge… Is this inherent of the type of battery it is, is it just showing signs of wear (ober 1 year), or is the OS miscalculating something?

I predict a public release next week, the battery thing is too widespread. Batterygate!

Any word on a fix for text tones purchased from iTunes that disappear after you have synced with the iPhone?

I want my R2D2 text tone back :-)
