I bought my 256 SSD drive in July for $430 to replace a failing standard drive from NewEgg. I don't know what prices look like right now but it was well worth the money. My SSD improved my MBP's performance at least as much as bumping my memory to 8GB.

There is some truth to that particularly with the desktop 3.5" drives, although the SE Asian floods are not impacting SSD's much and there are a lot of great deals.

The prices for hard drives are way too high. Don't buy one unless you need it. Retailers are price gouging due to the supply shortage caused by the floods in Thailand. If you can wait until March 2012, prices should come down.
