Small piece of tape on side of sim card with ATT logo seemed to solve the problem for now. What is troubling is that Apple seems to have released a product with a significant hardware issue, and as of yet, has not done a single thing to solve or fix it. Just like with the antennae with 3G this is too rampant to not be "known" to Apple. My assumption is that they know it is a bad design, but cannot recall or replace all units so they're trying to brush it under the carpet.

this is not funny my iPhone went flat i charged it up and got this no sim card message - phone was not bumped, dropped or dirtied in that time - after some research I believe I will not be buying another apple iPhone nor recommending them to anyone

I have the same No SIM ERROR on my 4S. Was on the phone with AT&T and Apple for 4 hours last night, no one was able to solve the problem. So dissappointed in the 4S, wish I never got rid of my 3G!!

i just got my first Iphone 3gS 6 days ago. Bought an otterbox .. and the darn phone has HAD No Sim error 2 times...
OMG, If I had an employee that did not show up 2 times in 6 days.. they would be fired.

Seems this might be related to the NEWEST update???
If this is a predominate, well known, chronic issue.. then phone service providers such as AT & T should not be allowed to hold us to a contract with a supplied phone that has known issues... your thoughts?

[...] Never heard of the exact problem you are having. I have a 3GS, 4 and 4S in my possession and iOS 5 works great on all. Try restoring again, this time download the latest iOS 5.0.1, there was an update to the one for 4S due to a "no SIM found" issue. Not the same issue you are having but close, but afaik the fix was only made for 4S.
