Just buy an iPhone unlocked if you need it unlocked, that is why Apple sells them. You pay more but it's about the same cost as you would pay in most other countries for a new phone anyway. Very few places allow onerous 2 year corporate contracts like the USA does, and very few countries citizens would put up with that kind of nonsense! Be a kiwi.
