OS X Mountain Lion Will Be Released July 25

OS X Mountain Lion release date is July 25

Update: Mountain Lion is now available!

No more rumors or speculation, Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that OS X Mountain Lion will launch July 25:

“We’re thrilled with record sales of 17 million iPads in the June quarter,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “We’ve also just updated the entire MacBook line, will release Mountain Lion tomorrow and will be launching iOS 6 this Fall. We are also really looking forward to the amazing new products we’ve got in the pipeline.”

That quote comes directly from Apple’s PR library ahead of the Q3 2012 earnings call this afternoon, and also serves to reiterate the release date of iOS 6 later this year, while also teasing for whatever “amazing new products” (new iPhone? iPad mini?) Cook is referring to.

As we mentioned earlier in our recap of things to do before installing Mountain Lion, you’ll want to back up your Mac before installing OS X 10.8 on your Mac.

American here living and working in Chongqing China. I’m downloading ML. It hit the Appstore approx. 8:30am east coast time in America. Oddly enough it was about the same time Lion hit last year.

lol what? You must be asking about a Virtual Machine install; if not then save up and buy yourself a Mac.

Or install linux on the PC and have something far better than a mac!!!

        • Salam says:

Yes. If you intend to be coder, tester and system integrator for yourself – linux is the way to go.

          You make my day :)

          • Bob says:

I don’t really code. I guess I code a little in python sometimes, maybe around 5k lines a year.

I am just an average user for whom linux works fine.

            Unix > Linux

            Unix > FreeBSD > MAC OS X

          • Jason says:

Andrew. MAC OS X is Unix. Actually, it’s the most popular user friendly Unix out there and most widely used now thanks to Apple merging NeXT Unix with the OS X Window Manager.

          • Bob says:

I run linux on a $100k cluster, and on a brand new macbook pro. I guess you have an interesting idea of poor people.

        • Alberto I says:

Bob (the troll), with the kind of comments that you write I wonder what you are doing here…
You should better frequent some Unix or PC blogs that this OsX one, don’t you think?

          • Bob says:

Probably I used to use OS X as my main OS before it started sucking with Lion, but I guess I keep coming back here hoping OS X once again not suck.
