Start Spotify, then switch from internal speakers to airport express just gives lovely silence. But switch to airport express and then start Spotify works fine. Because I also have an Apple TV, it only showed one of the multiple AirPlay devices. Once I selected "Output" as my AirPort Express, everything worked great.
