Is that it?. The iPhone5's 1GHz dual core processor with 1GB RAM is about half what you'd get in high-end Android phones. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a 1.6Ghz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM and the LG Optimus G has a 1.5Ghz quad-core processor with 2GB RAM.

Thank goodness for a larger - four inch diagonal? - screen. It makes a very very big difference in landscape position for text, newspapers, reading articles and so on.

Also the enhanced N-draft wifi is a must. More important than most other gismos & gimmicks. The reason that a 2-level N-draft wifi is important - that of having 2,4GHz as well as a 5GHz aerial in the unit, as opposed to a 2,4GHz only N-grade wifi - is due largely to many people having cordless landline home 'phones.

These cordless digital fixed-line house telephones pulse at 2,4GHz and there is obvious clash or conflict potentiality. In fact several wireless devices & items use this frequency - so the inclusion of 5GHz capability is the berries, very forward thinking, & is has auto-switching. More items will be coming through with wifi,
an increase in printers, house (internet) radios, & new TVs will likely have wifi.
The new Apple dual band N-protocol is going into the incoming (3Q 2012) iPod Touch (5Gen) too i am sure, which will have the iPhone 4S's processor.

Laughs/ Watch out for adaptors appearing that convert the old 30-pin connector to the new type connection.
Unapproved, but not unlawful.

Wireless charging is a viable 'wish', but perhaps there is not an industry standard, or the stability is not perfected. Would you want this feature if it worked less than half of the time.?
NFC. Hhmmm, Near Field Technology is for paying for goods. It can pay up to £15 pounds (GBP). What happens if you are in a queue, & your shopping comes to 15,75 and you can't swipe a pay until you put something back.
Mainly - fraud is becoming increasingly an issue & at a non-linear process. (it is increasing at a rate that cannot be measured - the line on the graph is going straight up, not at an sloping angle). So again would you rather do without something that you may wish to remove.? If you mean for comms - fair enough, but why not 'phone them. Or text. Or eMail. Or all 5.? Merely a thought.

A 12Mp camera is a waste of comment TBH. It not worthy even of the wear on your keyboard keys. The size of the pixels, the light entering the lens, the speed of the shutter are far more important than '12 MP camera' sensor. A 6 Mp camera can take a far superior picture than a 12 or 14, Many 6 or 7 Mp cameras have much bigger pixels. The higher pixel number has no bearing on picture quality. Lens & light make a quality image. A faster shutter is a must over your 12 MP. Far more important. If it WAS 12MP, would you want it to be 15 megapixel.?

Optical zoom? Is that a joke.? That would require a compound lens, which would require a 2 or 3 zoom housing to slide out of the 'phone, making it much more heavy. The mechanism alone would be the weight of the 112Gr camera as a minimum. An opticam zoom sticking out the slab-form 'phone would look ridiculous, and it will have a digital zoom - there are apps that can enhance the digital zoom under the 'photography' category. The on-board digital zoom should be sufficient.

It does have stereo speakers, & how do you know it doesn't have stereo recording.? There is 2 microphones on the device for noise cancellation. (superior call quality during voice calls)

Don't keep hoping - buy a new or 2nd hand 12Mp camera and put it in the other pocket from the new iPhone.
How do you know you need all the 'hoping' things you mention, If you have never used them.? If you have, you should be telling us.

The iPhone 4S is also fine as it is, but here we are, a new iPhone that is finer yet. Most point and shoot cameras have gone to 12 MP and higher and if the iPhone is to effectively replace them then it needs a higher resolution sensor. The Apple marketing spiel can only take you so far.

BTW my 3-year old SonyEricsson Satio has a 12 MP sensor, a xenon and an LED flash, and a sliding cover to keep the lens, light meter and flashes clean. Because you are right, when the lens has a layer of crud on it even an 8 MP sensor is an overkill. :p

I was really hoping for wireless charging and NFC built in. I was also hoping for a 12 MP camera and an optical zoom, stereo speakers and stereo recording with the top two microphones. I will keep hoping. :)

It is ARM version 7. There's a version 8 but they aren't latest. They buy the IP from ARM but it's Apple's chip.

I'm super excited to get mine too! Not only am I upgrading to iPhone 5 but I am switching from AT&T to Verizon which means LTE coverage! (AT&T doesn't offer it anywhere near me)

So much speed on the way!!! :)

The chip in then iphone 5 is custom designed by Apple

This is not based on ARM 9 design or the A15, Apple have designed it from the ground up and optimised it for speed and power requirements

You should not go by mhz to judge cpu speed its all about the design and architecture of it

The GeekBench scores show you the speed in raw tasks and processing, which is a much better indicator of performance than a raw MHz/GHz metric. The difference in MHz/GHz doesn't matter much and won't tell the story, because it all comes down to engineering. What this means for the iPhone is the new A6 is just a much better engineered chip. Much faster, more efficient, than older A4 and A5 architecture.

Think about how many leaps and bounds faster a Core i7 at 1.8GHz is than a Pentium 4 at 3GHz. Technically the clock speed is almost 50% less, but the Core i7 is about 5x faster. Intel just made a better engineered chip with the Core i7.
