One some Macs (especially notebooks) the F10 key is allocated for other tasks. In that case, press ESC and then ` (the key to the left of 1). That brings up the menu: then t, then g.

Jay, if you do actually want a spoken repeat, try this:

yes "I like fan noise" | xargs say

The yes command only gets my Mac Pro to 45% CPU power. Its been running 30 minutes and none of my CPUs are warmer than 110*f. Running multiple instances, watching a 720p video AND the star wars ASCII still doesn't get it warm.

Another emacs easteregg generates 3 lines of text sure to trigger any government eavesdropping filters (if you're not paranoid enough...)

esc-x spook

To exit emacs without saving, btw: Ctrl-x Ctrl-c
and to get internal documentation: esc-x help

Finally, the escape key is also known as Meta in the documentation (as emacs has been around longer than keyboards with esc keys).

Jay: Depending on the number of CPU cores, you'd have to run that many 'yes' commands... As well, the original 'yes' article specified dumping the output to /dev/null: I doubt a terminal window could print fast enough to tie up the CPU.

alias y "yes > /dev/null &" ; y ; y ; y ; y

ought to give your mini a workout.

Hmm, or maybe not. My Mini is still sitting at 60% idle cpu, fans are firmly at 1800rpm. Command has been running for almost 10 minutes now.

Unsure if it is supposed to, or if this is expected. Still accomplishes desired effect though.

The yes command doesn't say anything out loud on my mac. Just prints the words forever until stopped.
