Do you any external speakers or do you just listen straight through the MBP? I'm considering getting rid of my desktop (and the extras like speakers) and using my MBP as my full-time editing machine but I feel I'll need speakers to ensure quality audio in my movies?

FCPX has come a long way since release - the recent native RED controls are really handy. It certainly still has its limitations - but at the end of the day it's only a tool, and a very fast one with some neat new editing paradigm shifts at that. XML to Resolve is what I've been doing alot of.

No one in film seriously uses FCP X. Avid Symphony, RED Cine X or the old FCP studio suite for online finishing.

Indeed. This is an amazing Mac setup. That DeLorean is certainly a piece of awesomeness. When it arrived at that desk it thought: "Where am I? Am I back to the future?" A MacBook Pro, a Thunderbolt Display, an iPhone, an iPad, a Solar Keyboard, a Magic Mouse: It really is the future. This is Docs wet dream. I'm sure he's enjoying the from behind the wheel of that DeLorean.

HoverBar is really great - takes a bit of installing and moulding to get the right balance of support/angle but it hasn't budged since. I use AirDisplay with it on occasion - you can just select it as a third monitor and then position it accordingly. Retina screen is great too. Typically I leave Mail/Messages open on it while editing, so that I don't have to navigate away from FCPX while in fullscreen mode.

Basically it's a great way to dedicate apps/RSS readers. Get the most out of the 27" Thunderbolt.
