First, he never said it was an iPhone 5 that they were dropping. Just that it's an iPhone 5 case. Plus the only differences between the iPhone 5 and the iPod Touch 5 gen. (which is what they actually used) is that the iPod is a millimeter and a half thinner. Second reason is that if you pause the video at the 1:32 mark, you get a glimpse of the front of the devise as it starts its free fall. You can clearly see it's an iPod touch. (Just the camera in the center with no speaker or proximity sensor) Also what camera's do you know of that will still work perfectly while being exposed to temperatures ranging from -40° to -60° Celsius. Wonder if they dropped one (or more) that didn't survive before releasing this one. Maybe not, as terminal velocity perhaps no more than around 80-100 mph, with the remains of the balloon acting as a drag chute. Nice idea.
