Apple has released the second beta of iOS 7.1 for those registered with the iOS Developer program. The new build is 11D5115d and arrives nearly a month after the first beta release of 7.1 was rolled out.

iOS 7.1 Beta 2

Those registered with the registered developer program can download iOS 7.1 beta 2 ISPW directly from Apple by logging into the dev center. The supported device list includes all hardware eligible to run the initial iOS 7.0 build, including iPad Air, iPad 2, iPad 3 ,iPad 4, iPad mini, iPad Mini Retina, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5C, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, and iPod touch 5th gen. The developer center also offers updated beta builds of Xcode 5.1 and Apple TV firmware.

Individuals currently running iOS 7.1 beta 1 can also access the 7.1 Beta 2 update through the Over-The-Air functionality directly on their devices, accessible through Settings > Software Update.

iOS 7.1 is expected to offer some minor new features, enhancements to existing features, and is also said to offer significant performance improvements for some older devices running iOS 7, which may be a welcome to users who have made various system tweaks to boost speed on devices that otherwise feel sluggish post 7.0. Apple typically goes through several beta releases with developers before issuing a public version, and there is no current expectation on when a final build will be available for the wider public.

Those who aren’t eligible to run the build but are interested in learning about the various changes made in the latest developer version can find additional information on 9to5mac, they are updating a post with various minor changes introduced to the updated build as they are discovered, and presumably will post release notes when they become available.

The screenshots on 9to5 are… horrible. I didn’t think it was possible to get uglier than it was before, but miraculously iOS 7.1 beta 2 is somehow even uglier than iOS 7.1 beta 1 or iOS 7.0.

What on earth is Apple doing? Someone handed them keys to a Ferrari and they’re driving the company off the design cliff.
