Apple will release revisions to the iPad Air and iPad Mini in the coming months, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The report says the upcoming iPad models will feature a new “anti-reflection coating”, which will apparently make the display easier to read. Production is said to be currently under way, and the devices will be available before the holiday shopping season:

“Mass production of a full-sized iPad with a 9.7-inch screen is already under way, with an unveiling projected for the end of this quarter or early next, said two of the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public. A new version of the 7.9-inch iPad mini is also entering production and will probably be available by the end of the year, they said.”

The report also mentions Apple’s plans for introducing the iPhone 6 in two screen sizes, which is expected to debut on September 9, as well as the so-called iWatch, which is expected to be a health-tracking smartwatch device and is said to arrive a month later in October.

Separately, the well-sourced 9to5mac suggests the next generation iPad models will feature faster A8 processors, Touch ID fingerprint scanning abilities like that from the iPhone, as well as improved cameras. The aluminum enclosure of the next iPad Mini and iPad Air is expected to remain the same as existing models, and will ship running iOS 8. Other less reliable rumors suggest the possibility that the next iPad could arrive with a gold color option, similar to that available on the iPhone. There are also some rumors suggesting the existing current generation iPad Mini Retina model may stick around as the lower cost option on the price spectrum, though exact pricing details of the upcoming iPad lineup remains to be seen.

    LONG overdue!

  2. I’m glad they’re finally seeing what we see — a boatload of fingerprints! Perhaps one could argue for gloss on the desktop/laptop for full-screen movie viewing, but those phones and tablets need a matte coating to work properly.

I’m still using my iPad 2, which uses the old iPod dock connector. Can’t say I’ll upgrade automatically, but a new processor and new screen will make it tempting.

    It’s new!

    New!

    Apple devices with “anti-reflective” screens…

    aka Matt screens!

Well that didn’t take long (to get our matt screens back!)
