Six iPhone 6 Rumors That Are Most Likely To Be True

iPhone 6

There’s no shortage of next generation iPhone rumors out there, but as the iPhone 6 debut nears it’s becoming a bit easier to whittle down what’s likely and what’s not. With that in mind, here are six of the most likely rumors for we can all expect from the next iPhone.

Bigger Screens: 4.7″ and 5.5″

If there’s a single iPhone 6 rumor that has been consistent, it’s bigger displays. Just about every leak, rumor, and whisper says that the next iPhone will be available with two sizes, a 4.7″ display or a 5.5″ display version, so the major decision consumers will have is whether to go big or bigger.

Surely there will be other features that differentiate the two devices as well, perhaps a better camera or larger stock storage capacity on the 5.5″ model, but for now the big question will be what you want the screen size of your next iPhone to be.

Highly Durable Glass Display with Tapered Edges

The next iPhone models are expected to use highly durable glass displays which are considerably more shatter and scratch resistant than previous iPhone screens. How durable is the new glass supposed to be? A YouTube video demonstrates with a torture test on what is claimed to be a leaked iPhone 6 screen component:

There are even some claims the displays will be made out of sapphire glass, at least on higher cost models, but the alleged component leaks that have popped up around the web don’t appear to be made from the material. Sapphire or not, the latest display leaks show that the screen will be tapered along the edges, adding a nice sleek look to the front panel.

Faster A8 Processor

A faster and more energy efficient A8 CPU is expected to power the next iPhone. This has long been rumored, but a recent part leak of what it said to be an iPhone 6 logic board appears to confirm this.

Better Camera, Maybe 13 Megapixels

A 13 megapixel camera component appeared that could be destined for the iPhone 6. This would mark a significant improvement from the 8mp camera currently on iPhone 5S, which is the same resolution that has been with the iPhone since the 4S. While many argue that “megapixels don’t matter”, anyone who uses their iPhone as their primary camera agrees; it’s time for a serious camera upgrade. This one could be wishful thinking, but many of us are crossing our fingers anyway.

Touch ID

The touch ID fingerprint sensor was first introduced on iPhone 5S, and rumors suggest it will be standard on all iPhone 6 models. That means easier device unlocking with greater security, both welcome features.

September 19 Release Date

Apple has apparently scheduled the official debut of iPhone 6 for September 9, which suggests the device will likely be released just a few short weeks later. Typically Apple skips a week and releases new iPhones on a Friday, putting the release date onto September 19. This is just a guess of course, nobody outside of Apple knows when the iPhone will go on sale quite yet.

Appearance May Look Like This

Consistency in (supposed) leaked components points to the iPhone 6 looking something like this aluminum rear shell which keeps popping up, the latest shown below from 9to5mac:

Keeping in mind that most of the component leaks are of unfinished hardware, fan-created renders are often a better representation of that the device could look like, and these renders in particular look quite sharp.

Of course it’s possible that Apple will completely surprise us with a very different looking device, with features completely different than everyone expects… we’ll know for certain on September 9.

What if all this time, the supposed iPhone 6 designs we’ve all been seeing for the past months is actually a false leak by Apple itself and indeed the actual one would be [totally] different?

  8. Monsoor says:

iPhone 6 is an incremental update, basically catching up to what’s available on Android. But it’s an iPhone, so it’s what I prefer to use, but let’s not allow ourselves to be unrealistic and pretend this is anything innovative or new. Android has had 5″ screens for three years now, Apple is playing catch up.
