Apple’s Holiday 2015 Ad: “Someday At Christmas” with Stevie Wonder and Andra Day

Apple Holiday 2015 commercial with Stevie Wonder

Apple has started to air their annual holiday TV commercial for the 2015 season. This year the advertisement features musical legend Stevie Wonder singing a duet of “Someday At Christmas” with singer Andra Day and a family with their friendly dog, along with subtle but clever displays of various Apple products being put to use.

The commercial is 90 seconds long and has been embedded below for easy viewing. It starts off with Stevie Wonder using the VoiceOver Accessibility feature bundled with the Mac along with the OS X application Garageband to get the Christmas track ready.

The official Apple YouTube channel includes the following brief blurb with the advertisement: “From our family to yours, Andra Day and Stevie Wonder perform his 1967 holiday classic, “Someday At Christmas”.”

While some years Apple has aimed for tearjerkers and tugged at the heart strings with varying degrees of emotion, this holiday season Apple has gone a bit softer and warmer, while also demonstrating some of the lesser known Accessibility features of OS X and throwing in a few Apple Watch and iPhone sightings. Look carefully during the scene of a friendly hello from a labrador retriever and you’ll spot an Apple Watch:

The original and complete “Someday At Christmas” song performed by Stevie Wonder in 1967 is also embedded below for you to enjoy:

If you’re interested in seeing some of the prior holiday celebratory ads from Apple, you’ll find 2014, 2013, the Christmas commercial from 2012, 2011, and 2010, and you can see the myriad of all other Apple commercials here as well.

Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Holidays, and Merry Christmas!

Of course it’s going to be a commercial with black people after all it’s the year of the minority and white people are being portrayed as evil and must be shamed constantly to make minorities feel special.

  2. Gareth says:

Andra day’s voice really annoys me too. Hardly any enunciation of the words and really screechy.

It’s not GarageBand shown in the commercial, it’s Logic Pro X.

  11. Valencia says:

This ad is sweet. I’ve loved Stevie since he and I were both young. And I was first introduced to Andra Day, I think in September on one of the talk shows. Her voice is jazzy and meshes very well with Stevie’s. The words show on the bottom of the page. This song has a message of hope and peace that we all need a little bit of now. God bless you all and Happy Holidays. Even Apple. 😉

Wonderful Ad. Thank You Apple. The music was so wonderful and the duet so sweet! I also could not readily identify the female vocalist but will now. Such wonderful harmony. Loved Andra Day! Her voice and presence was so sweet! And a beautiful black woman. And Stevie. His ever-loving grace and genius! Keep up the love, Apple!

  13. Jesusgirl says:

First time I’ve actually liked & wished a song on a commercial would last longer! Does Andra Day have any previous music published? Is there someplace to download the full duet of Stevie Wonder & Andra Day?
Good job with commercial, Apple, now will you PLEASE make my iPhone 5s work correctly? Even the Verision employee couldn’t correct it!

  14. lee says:

  17. Lee Ann Meleca says:

Andra Day is absolutely awful! Her voice is quite grating.

  18. Dom Vendetta says:

Do you people even listen to the words? You bash men about making war and dropping bombs in a Christmas song?

    Get lost Apple

  19. Henri says:

I’m afraid people don’t read “well” — meaning “accurately” — anymore. According to this article that folks are commenting on, Apple’s own statement (copied below) introduces the female singer as ANDRA Day.

“The official Apple YouTube channel includes the following brief blurb with the advertisement: “From our family to yours, Andra Day and Stevie Wonder perform his 1967 holiday classic, “Someday At Christmas”.”

  20. Jane says:

To hard to understand what she’s saying needs to learn how to enunciate better

    • Julia Johnson says:

It is hard for me to understand your comment. I love music, and there are times when I find most singers of 2015 are difficult to understand. They do not “enunciate the words being sung” so that I can understand. There is an easy way to understand the words; it is called “Closed Caption”. On YouTube all you have to do is “click the cc icon”. If you see a “cc” icon under YouTube videos, that means there are closed-captions available. Just click it to turn them on. There is also another very easy way to understand the lyrics……..Just use Google to find the lyrics.

    • Ree says:

Too hard to understand an idiot like you. Thereby its too worthless to give an idiot like you any credence.

    • Trip says:

      Bob, you’re a fool.

  28. bob says:

To hard to understand what she’s saying

  29. Elizabeth Clark Miceli says:

    Super warm ad… Good job🎄

  30. Stevie Wonder? Check
    Apple? Check
Chance of being an epic song? 100%

First time I’ve heard of Sandra Day though.

  31. Wharf Xanadu says:

I like Stevie Wonder. I don’t know who Sandra Day is until I heard this. I am out of touch with pop music I think.

  32. Douglas York says:

A great song from a great album, and a good commercial. I like that a MAC is shown since they rarely seem to advertise the Mac anymore, but the Mac is the most usable productive device they have aside from iPhone!

Also, I must say I enjoy that Apple is not afraid to reference “CHRISTMAS”, because Christmas is a great annual celebration whether you’re religious or not.
