MacOS Mojave beta

Apple has released macOS Mojave developer beta 11 and macOS Mojave public beta 10 for users enrolled in the MacOS system software beta testing programs.

The latest beta update arrives as build 18A389, and there is some speculation that it could be a candidate for GM based on the fact that iOS 12 GM was just released for downloading.

Mac users who are currently running a beta build of macOS Mojave can find the latest beta version available to download now from the Software Update preference panel in System Preferences.

If you’re running an existing version of macOS Mojave beta, it’s a good idea to update to the latest version available.

MacOS Mojave includes an all new Dark Mode theme, improvements to the Finder and desktop, some new screenshot tools, a variety of iOS apps brought to the Mac platform including Stocks and Voice Memos, amongst other various features and enhancements.

Anyone can install MacOS Mojave public beta to run the operating system before the official release, or if you’d rather have a more controlled experiment you can also run macOS Mojave in a virtual machine like Parallels for free.

The final version of macOS Mojave is scheduled to be available for wide release in the near future, with Apple announcing the macOS Mojave release date is set for September 24.

Separately, iOS 12 for iPhone and iPad, which is currently in GM, will be released on September 17.

I wanted to download the full installer for macOS Mojave, I was able to do it with this python script:

    https://github.com/munki/macadmin-scripts/blob/master/installinstallmacos.py

Something important though is that it builds an installer specific to the machine you are running the script from, it is not a universal installer. IE if you build this on a 2017 iMac, then it will only work to install on a 2017 iMac, or a 2018 MacBook Pro if built on a 2018 MBP, etc.

Handy tool for if you need it. Otherwise you can get the full macOS Mojave installer from Mac App Store as downloaded.

  2. I would thoroughly recommend getting hold of beta 11. I had some issues with beta 10 with some apps, notably Tweetbot, giving me “This app is damaged…” messages and just refusing to run. Beta 11 seems to have solved this issue.
