iOS 13 Beta and iPadOS Beta

Apple has released the downloads for iOS 13 beta 4 and iPadOS 13 beta 4 to developers involved in the iOS and iPadOS beta system software testing programs.

iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 include many new interesting features for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, including a new dark interface theme, a redesigned Photos app, a new Find My app that helps you find your devices and your friends or family, new features to Reminders and Notes, new multitasking features for iPad, and much more.

Typically a new developer beta build is released first and soon followed by the accompanying build as a public beta that is versioned a number behind, for example iOS 13 beta 4 is usually iOS 13 public beta 3 but sharing the same build, in this case 17A5534f. The corresponding iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 public beta 3 builds are also available to download now.

Users enrolled in the iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 beta testing programs can download the latest versions now from the Settings app > General > Software Update.

Separately, MacOS Catalina Beta 4 is available for Mac beta testers as well. New beta updates to watchOS 6 and tvOS 13 are also available for users participating in those beta programs.

Technically anyone can install the developer beta builds if they have access to the developer beta profile, but a better choice for curious users who wish to try out iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 is by enrolling in the public beta testing programs. You can learn how to install iOS 13 public beta on iPhone here and you can learn how to install iPadOS 13 public beta on iPad here.

Beta system software is notoriously buggy and often incompatible with existing software and thus is only appropriate for advanced users, and ideally on a secondary device. If you’re running iOS 13 beta and find it too buggy or problematic, you can downgrade iOS 13 beta back to a stable iOS 12 release if necessary.

Apple has said that iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 will debut to the general public in the fall.

Ewald, thank you for your feedback
I know that; while I do not understand
why arrived under public beta profile the beta 4
    :)
I am still looking for an answer….

The public betas are out now too for iOS 13, iPadOS 13, etc.

As for macOS, it appears that the public beta of MacOS Catalina was quietly released to some on the same day as the developer beta, but it should be labeled as version 3 rather than 4. Maybe not a full rollout that day, not sure but I have seen people discuss this on other forums too.

      • John says:

Build number of MacOS Catalina currently is the same as Public Beta 3 and Developer Beta 4 (19A521f)
During updating; the label was Beta 4
        The miracle had been solving.
        Thank you

  3. John says:

I had enrolled in the public beta program both on iPhone and Mac.
Yesterday I got MacOS Catalina Beta 4 on Mac; nevertheless, ain’t on iPhone.
3rd party profile had not installed on my Mac
Why beta 4 appeared; any ideas?

    Thank you

    John

    • Paul says:

This is the latest developer beta, the corresponding public beta has not been released yet. Give it some more time, often later in the same day or the next days.

      • John says:

        Yes, thank you
Anyway, I do not understand this mismatch.
Beta 4 installed on Mac with public beta profile enrollment.

These beta programs are different, the numerical versions will not always correspond between iOS and macOS beta versions.
