OK I am jumping on the bored bandwagon here. Where is the new interface? All the new features? This looks like a minor update at best, a few icon changes and some system preferences look different – who cares?

With Vista out now, Apple really needs to jump up on the competition. Vista looks cool as hell and it’s very fluid, it makes OS X look dated and old now. Weird to say that because I hate Windows but come on Apple, step on it!

While these screen shots suck, as someone who writes massive amounts of code to OS X I’m really excited about the under-the-hood features of the new OS, including the multi-threaded OpenGL engine (I know it’s already available on Mac Pro’s), Core Animation, NSOperation (including NSOperationQueue), and the fine-grained kernel locks.

I’m sorry I have to make one comment to Apple. Around the 12th screen there, you see some extended battery information (I wonder if it will say whether or not explosion is imminent … ).

But at the bottom, it says the dreaded Radio Shack created word that absolutely kills physicists: amperage?!? What is this, something Dr Seuss created? Additional stupid words include “ohmage,” Apple. I thought you guys were better than this! :)

I think I’m becoming more and more skeptical that anything really new will be released that the dev previews haven’t already shown. Has Apple ever done close beta testing that the dev community would not have already seen, this close to the suspected launch?

Please tell me Apple has something better in store for us then what is depicted in these screenshots. A new X11 and Terminal icon? Whooppity Dooda
