Lion release date is July 20

Update: Lion is now available, you can download it now from the Mac App Store for $29.99

Apple has confirmed that Mac OS X 10.7 Lion will launch today, July 20. This was announced today during the Apple Q3 2011 earnings call by Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer, and later reaffirmed by COO Tim Cook.

This confirms at least half of the recent rumor about a Wednesday launch, but it remains to be seen whether a new MacBook Air will be launched alongside Lion as well, or later in the month.

Mac OS X Lion will cost $29.99 and be available exclusively as a digital download through the Mac App Store. You can read more of our Lion coverage here.

OMG Apple are soooo stupid!! I didnt even know it out now!! I was searching on app store and I found it!! Apple did not even sent me the “supposed to be” email to tell me when its out!! wow! When you launch a new thing and you are pretty happy of it you tell it LOUNDLY!! I mean, they could put a big splash on the site telling “THE LION HAVE NOW WOKE UP! GET HIM RIGHT NOW”…. but no…. nothing from them lol

  4. Geren says:

It’s there now. But, there’s no be splash screen for it on the App store (as of about 1 minute ago — 8:42AM EST). In fact, you have to search for it. LOL! For all the hype, it’s about the softest launch I’ve ever seen.

  5. Henry says:

The UK Apple Store is down with a message displaying “We’ll Be Back Soon”. So if Lion is to come out in the UK at 13:30 (15 mins) will the rumored new Mac Mini and/or MacBook Air becoming out along beside it? or maybe even a new MacBook Pro?
