Voice Text iPhone ad

Apple has started to run another new iPhone 6 ad, titled “Voice Text”. The commercial features Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake discussing the ability to send voice clips through the messages app of iPhones.

The ad is running on network and cable television, and is embedded below for easy viewing:

This commercial follows the same theme as the other iPhone 6 commercials, the two most recent being called “Gamers” and “Reservations”.

It’s worth pointing out that even though the commercial features iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus using Voice Text, the feature is actually available on any device running iOS 8 and newer. That means an iPhone can send an iPad a voice text, and vice versa, allowing users to quickly pass around voice recording clips through the Messages app. The audio clip arrives to the recipient within the message and can be played directly within the app.

How does this work? My “mic” button is at the lower left, not upper right and nothing like what it shows in the commercial happens. It just puts what I say into text form. Any pointers?

You probably aren’t running iOS 8 or newer, or you aren’t using iMessage. Voice Text requires iOS 8 or newer and you need to have iMessage enabled on your end (the recipient does not require iMessage, however).

So does imessaging have to be enabled for this feature to work? I don’t see it on my keyboard.

Do you know what song is that on the background?

Why is this good? The whole point of texting is quick visual communication. Now I have to listen to a voicemail in a text? It should provide the option to auto convert to text.

I’ll post it again since you took it down the first time. If you get into watching and discussing Apple commercials, you are a vulnerable member of the cult.
