If you are not a registered developer, you’ll either have to wait for the public release, or become a developer. Technically, anyone can sign up for the program for a $99 annual fee, which grants access to download beta system software and other tools aimed at those building software for Apple platforms. Alternatively, Mac users who wish to participate in beta programs but who do not want to be full fledged developers can opt to be included in the OS X Public Beta program instead, which will include OS X El Capitan in July.

As usual with installing beta software, be sure to back up the Mac beforehand, and ideally, run the beta system software on secondary hardware or at least a separate partition.

OS X El Capitan is the next version of Mac system software, focusing on performance improvements and feature enhancements, and will be released to the general public this fall as a free download.

Registered Apple developers will also find iOS 9 beta 1 available to download at the dev center website.

    Installed the Dev Preview today on my 2014 MacBook Air. I know it’s a beta but I had the perception the DP’s of Yosemite were already more stable.
    But of course all these bugs will be fixed in October when we can all run this. Not a lot of new features, but more stability and better performance are definitely worth it.

    If your looking for the how to on making a bootable 10.11.. download it from the app store then close the installer, insert a bootable USB (in my case Untitled) and then run the following via terminal..

    sudo /Applications/Install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/Untitled –applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X 10.11 Developer Beta.app/

      I find it better to;
      Choose to install normally straight to the media, be that USB Gig Stick or external HD. When the computer restarts just shutdown again before the Set up Assistant gets into its stride and then restart to your normal partition.
      You now have an installable full working copy of the OS that you can use Disk Utility, CCC or SuperDuper to clone to wherever you want.
