Apple has released the second beta version of iOS 9.1 to developers, arriving as build 13B5119e for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Separately, a new tvOS beta has arrived for Apple TV developers.

The new iOS 9.1 beta likely focuses on bug fixes and improvements to iOS, though a notable change for users is the addition of new emoji characters, including a burrito, a taco, and a middle finger gesture.

Users who are participating in the iOS beta program and running an existing build of iOS 9.1 beta will find the beta 2 download available through the Over-the-Air update mechanism in Settings > Software Update. The OTA delta update is around 160MB for an iPhone.

Additionally, developers can download IPSW files for the iOS 9.1 beta 2 at the Apple iOS Developer Center website. tvOS beta 2 is also available to download from the Apple Developer Center.

Presumably, iOS 9.1 Beta 2 will arrive for iOS Public Beta testers shortly.

Though there is no known public release date set for iOS 9.1 final, it’s assumed the version of iOS will arrive either with the release of the new Apple TV or iPad Pro later in the year.

The most recent publicly available version of iOS is currently iOS 9.0.1.

Installing… Can’t wait to send an SMS with the new burrito-showing-his-middle-finger emoji in it!

Or is it the taco…? I am confused…

    • Taco says:

The burrito middle taco finger emoji is easily the best feature in iOS 9.1, it’s very innovative, it’s the best emoji you’ve seen yet.

    • Kevin says:

Other people won’t see the new emojis unless they’ve updated to Unicode 8 as well. Otherwise all they’ll see is empty boxes.
