How to Edit Saved Passwords on iPhone & iPad

Do you use iCloud Keychain to store the log-in details of your various online accounts? Well, if you change the password to any of these logins or accounts on their respective platforms or websites, Keychain doesn’t always update the information right away. And when that happens, you wouldn’t be able to use this handy feature to quickly log in to these accounts, unless you manually update the password and login information in Keychain. Fortunately, editing saved account information, logins, and passwords is easy on iPhone and iPad.

Keychain is a nifty tool that’s baked into iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS devices that stores online account information, and automatically fills out log-in details, credit card information, Wi-Fi passwords and more. Since this functionality comes out of the box, iPhone and iPad users don’t necessarily need to rely on a third-party app like Dashlane or LastPass for password management. However, as soon as you change the password to any of your accounts, you will need to update it in the passwords section of your iPadOS or iOS device, otherwise Keychain would no longer function properly.

In this article, we’ll be discussing how you can edit saved passwords on both the iPhone & iPad with iCloud Keychain. If you have previously manually added account logins and passwords to iCloud Keychain on iPhone or iPad then some of this process will be familiar to you.

How to Edit Saved Account Login & Passwords on iPhone & iPad Keychain

All the information related to iCloud Keychain is contained within the Settings app. Accordingly, if you’re interested in finding and updating those accounts that use an outdated password, simply follow the steps below carefully.

  1. Open “Settings” from the home screen of your iPhone and iPad.

Now you know how to edit saved logins and passwords on your iPhone & iPad with iCloud Keychain.

Similarly, you can find other accounts that are using an old password and update those to make sure you can keep using Keychain without running into issues. And while you’re in Keychain settings, you can also manually add logins and passwords to Keychain in iOS and iPadOS and those newly added logins will sync to other devices using the same Apple ID with iCloud Keychain too.

If you’ve used any other password manager before, you’ll be quick to realize that iCloud Keychain has great features but also is lacking others. This is perhaps why some users may want to try out a third-party password management solution, despite all the convenience that iCloud Keychain has to offer. For starters, iCloud Keychain lacks certain basic features that you would expect out of a password manager, like alerting you in case of a security breach, or being able to change passwords without even leaving the app during the login process (at least consistently). These are a few reasons why third-party password managers like LastPass, 1Password, or DashLane would be a more ideal solution for some users, especially anyone using cross platform devices, as some of the third party password managers work across Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad, Android, and even Linux.

Do you own a MacBook or iMac? If so, you’ll be pleased to know that iCloud Keychain works seamlessly on macOS devices as well. Additionally, if you own multiple Apple devices, all your saved passwords and other information will be synced across your devices, as long they’re logged into the same Apple account with iCloud.

Did you manage to find and update all the old passwords that were stored on iCloud Keychain from your iPhone and iPad? What do you think of this useful feature of iOS and macOS? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comments section down below.
