Are you not content with the text size of your subtitles while watching videos on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV? Don’t worry, regardless of your device, you can change your subtitle font size within a matter of seconds.

Not everyone has the same eyesight, and although many people use the default setting for subtitles, some people prefer to have larger text to make the subtitles easier to read. This can help to reduce eye strain and increase readability of subtitles while watching a movie or binging a TV show. Read on as we’ll be covering how you can customize the font size of subtitles on iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

  7. As you can see here, there are multiple size options that you can choose from, with “Extra Large” being the largest text size available. Additionally, you’ll need to disable “Video Override”. Some videos specify the size of the subtitle texts. By disabling this override, you can use the size you selected.

Assuming you followed the steps, you’ve now been able to change the subtitle font size on your iPhone and iPad.

As you can see here, the ability to customize your subtitles is considered as an accessibility feature within iOS and iPadOS. In the same menu, you can also change the color and adjust the opacity of your subtitles for improving their legibility. These settings greatly help people with visual difficulties or less than perfect eyesight skim through subtitles without much strain, as they’re watching a video, movie, or show.

Of course if you’re looking to take advantage of these customized subtitle styles, you need to make sure that subtitles & closed captions are enabled on your iPhone or iPad device to begin with.

If you’re interested in using subtitles because you are hard of hearing, or because you’re simply watching a show or movie on mute or with low audio, you can also choose “SDH” from the list of available subtitles. SDH stands for subtitles for deaf and hard of hearing, and they differ from regular subtitles, typically by being more descriptive of other sounds.

If you own a Mac, you’ll be pleased to know that you can change your subtitle font and size for iTunes and video playback on your macOS device as well. This could be handy, as the default text size for subtitles is on the smaller side for most people.

We hope you were able to change the text size of your subtitles on your iPhone, iPad and Apple TV without any issues. What font size did you choose? Did you customize how your subtitles look in any other ways? Do share your thoughts and experience in the comments section down below.
