macOS Big Sur updates

Apple has released macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 with an important security fix for Mac users running Big Sur. The update resolves a problem where “processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution” and is therefore recommended for all Mac users to update to the latest system software.

Additionally, Apple released the same security fix for Safari users running macOS Mojave and Catalina.

Separately, the same security fix has also been released for iPhone and iPad with the iOS 14.4.1 and iPadOS 14.4.1 update, and Apple Watch users will find an update available for them as well.

The macOS Big Sur 11.2.3 update weighs in around 2.5gb but does not appear to include any other changes.

How to Update to MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3

Always backup Mac to Time Machine or another backup method before installing any system software update.

  1. Go to the  Apple menu
  2. Choose “System Preferences”
  3. Select “Software Update” from the preference panels
  4. Select “Update Now” for macOS Big Sur 11.2.3

The full download is nearly 2.5GB and will require a reboot to complete.

Mac users who are running Catalina or Mojave will find Safari 14.0.3 (v. 14610.4.3.1.7 and 15610.4.3.1.7) available instead to download if they wish to stay on Mojave or Catalina.
