MacOS Monterey Beta

Apple has released the fourth beta version of macOS Monterey 12.1 to users involved in the beta testing program for Macintosh system software.

MacOS Monterey 12.1 beta 4 includes SharePlay which allows for screen sharing and video sharing over FaceTime, along with some small improvements to other features like Hide My Email.

Universal Control, arguably the most anticipated feature of macOS Monterey, is yet to be included in the fourth beta of macOS Monterey 12.1, and it remains to be seen if the feature will be included in the point release at all. Universal Control will allow a single mouse and keyboard to be used across multiple Macs and iPads.

MacOS Monterey 12.1 also presumably focuses on bug fixes, and there are some suggestions that the tap-to-click issue that has been reported as a problem in macOS Monterey has been resolved in beta 4.

MacOS Monterey 12.1 beta 4 is available to download via  Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update for any user enrolled in the beta testing program for MacOS.

Apple often releases a new iOS and iPadOS beta alongside the macOS beta, but this time around macOS beta arrived on its own, perhaps suggesting the mobile betas will be released shortly.

The most recently available versions of system software for Mac are macOS Monterey 12.0.1, with security updates available for Big Sur and Catalina.
