iOS 16 beta and iPadOS 16 beta

Apple has released the first beta versions of iOS 16 for iPhone and iPadOS 16 for iPad to users enrolled in the developer beta testing programs for Apple system software.

For any user who is a registered Apple developer, you can access the Apple Developer site at https://developer.apple.com/ where you can download the beta profile to install onto your eligible iPhone or iPad.

Beta system software is notoriously buggy and unreliable, especially early beta builds, so it’s best practice to install the system software only on devices that you do not need for routine use.

While users may find the iOS 16 beta profiles available to download around the web and social media, it’s best to avoid those. If you are a more casual user who is interested in beta testing iOS 16 or iPadOS 16, waiting a month for the public beta versions to become available is recommended instead.

iOS 16 is compatible with all iPhone 13 models, all iPhone 12 models, all iPhone 11 models, all iPhone X models, all iPhone 8 models, and the iPhone SE 2nd generation or newer.

iPadOS 16 is compatible with all iPad Pro models, iPad Air models that are 3rd generation and newer, iPad 5th generation and newer, and iPad Mini 5th generation and newer.

For non-beta testers, you can check out iPadOS 16 features and some screenshots, and take a look at iOS 16 screenshots and features too.

Apple has said the final versions of iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 will be available in the fall.

Additionally, the first beta version of macOS Ventura is available for Mac beta testers.
