The iPad allows you to easily adjust the cursor tracking speed, whether you’re using a trackpad or a mouse with the iPad.

For some users, the default iPad cursor tracking speed may be too fast, and for others it may be too slow. Fortunately, there’s a wide variety of adjustment available, and you can make the mouse pointer move as fast or as slow as you’d like.

How to Change the Cursor / Pointer Tracking Speed on iPad

Changing how quickly the cursor moves around on screen is simple:

  1. Open Settings app on the iPad
  2. Go to “General” and then choose “Trackpad & Mouse”
  3. Look for the Tracking Speed slider at the top of the screen, dragging the dial towards the left turtle to slow the cursor down, or dragging the dial towards the right rabbit to speed the cursor up

  5. When satisfied, exit Settings

The tracking speed for the cursor/pointer is instantly changed, so you can test out how you like the speed right away as you make the adjustments.

How fast or how slow you set the trackpad / mouse cursor is entirely a matter of personal preference, and dependent on their workflow as well. Many artists like a very slow tracking speed, whereas many of us caffeinated types enjoy a fast cursor speed.

If you’ve never adjusted the tracking speed of the pointer, try out different speeds and see which works best for you and how you use your device.

Note that this setting will adjust the tracking speed of either a trackpad cursor or a mouse pointer, and on any pointing device you’re using with the iPad. This includes the iPad Magic Keyboard case, but also any Bluetooth mouse or trackpad that is synced with the iPad.

And we’re using a blanket term of iPad here, but all of this applies equally to iPad, iPad Pro, iPad Mini, and iPad Air.

While we’re focused on the iPad tracking speed here, you can also change the tracking speed of cursors on a Mac if you use that platform as well.
