How to Disable Clean Energy Charging on iPhone

iPhone Clean Energy Charging setting

The newest versions of iOS have introduced an interesting feature that Apple calls “clean energy charging” which aims to ‘reduce your carbon footprint’ by timing when your iPhone charges to align with when ‘lower carbon emission electricity’ is available.

Putting aside the stark realities and illusions of green energy, whether or not you want your iPhone to manage your charging schedule based on carbon emissions rather than anything else, is up you.

Apple describes the Clean Energy Charging feature as follows:

“When Clean Energy Charging is enabled and you connect your iPhone to a charger, your iPhone gets a forecast of the carbon emissions in your local energy grid and uses it to charge your iPhone during times of cleaner energy production.”

Like many features on the iPhone, you can turn off the Clean Energy charging Feature.

How to Turn Off Clean Energy Charging on iPhone

Disabling the clean energy charging feature on iPhone is easy:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone
  2. Go to “Battery”
  3. Choose “Battery Health & Charging”
  4. Locate “Clean Energy Charging” and switch the setting to the OFF position
  5. iPhone Clean Energy Charging setting

With this feature off, your iPhone will charge as it did prior to the creation of this feature.

The Settings description of Clean Energy Charging is as follows:

“In your region, iPhone will try to reduce your carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon emission electricity is available. iPhone learns from your daily charging routine so it can reach full charge before you need to use it.”

This feature is currently only available in the United States, but it’s likely coming soon to many European countries and others that are concerned with carbon emissions. The feature is actually turned on by default on any iPhone running iOS 16.1 or later, which is noteworthy.

And if you’re broadly curious about “clean energy”, the documentary below is informative and may surprise you regardless of what your existing beliefs and assumptions are surrounding the topic, revealing an uncomfortably grim reality of current so-called green energy technology and carbon oriented projects in the name of climate change:

What do you think of this iPhone feature? Did you leave it turned on, or did you toggle it off?

Save the planet indeed! /sarc (Well, maybe not sarcasm)
No CO2 equates to no plants undergoing photosynthesis which equates to no O2 for those creatures that use oxygen!

    Imbeciles are what they are.

    • Boris Badenov says:

We were awfully close to disaster a very short time ago, oh not from too much CO2 but from too little, but it’s not like humans have much to do with anything on this rock besides dig big holes to get toxic minerals out of it to pollute other areas with at the END OF LIFE of the battery powered device.

  2. Blue Wave says:

Save the planet, switch it on

  3. Smokey says:

    I toggled ‘Green Energy’: OFF.

“Green energy” is nonsense. Here’s where most of the energy for an electric car comes from:

    #1: Coal.

    #2: Natural gas

Coal and LNG is burned to generate electricity, which in turn powers electric cars. That means gasoline engines are more “green” than fossil fuels. But we never hear that, do we?

And we never hear that the rise in CO2 (“carbon”) is measurably greening the planet, and by quite a lot.

CO2 is plant fertilizer. Plants LOVE more CO2 (which has been up to 15X higher in the geologic past, without ever causing runaway global warming. For that matter, high CO2 levels has never caused ANY global warming. There is no credible corellation between CO2 and global warming in the geologic record.

The country is being indoctrinated by Big Media, which marginalizes or censors outright all scientific facts and opinions that do not support the media’s man-made global warming narrative.

The media’s 24/7/365 advertising works, and it works very well since no other science is made available to the public. Here is just one example, of many such:

Every year thousands of measurements of short term atmospheric CO2 and temperature fluctuations are recorded. Similar long term year-over-year measurements are also taken.

Those measurements all show the same temperature/CO2 relationship: changes in atmospheric CO2 always FOLLOW changes in the planet’s temperature anomaly (short term, intra-day fluctuations).

The same relationship is observed in the long term temperature/CO2 trend: changes in the global temperatures always PRECEDE changes in atmospheric CO2.

    What does that mean?

This: An effect cannot logically precede its own cause, therefore rising CO2 CANNOT be the primary CAUSE of global warming. QED

Has anyone ever heard that scientific FACT in today’s media?

That fact is routinely censored, because it FALSIFIES the hypothesis that rising CO2 is the primary cause of global warming.

There are many other measurements, failed predictions, and empirical observations that FALSIFY the hypothesis that our CO2 emissions are the primary cause of global warming. But those facts are censored because they are contrary to the media’s “carbon” narrative. (They can be found, but it takes a little effort because the media won’t show those facts to the public).

Readers can conclude as they wish; this rant is not about assigning motives. Rather, it shows that the incessant media narrative we hear every day is 100.0% pseudoscience.

In (real) science, when a hypothesis is falsified its proponents have a choice: they can “go back to thedrawing board” and re-write their hypothesis, but taking into account the reason(s) why Mother Nature falsified it. Or, they can accept the verdict of the real world. But they cannot simply ignore the inconvenient facts that falsify their hypothesis, as the IPCC continues to do.

When a hypothesis is falsified, that means it is NOT a reflection of the real world.

Mother Nature doesn’t make it easy to pry open her secrets; only those hypotheses that remain standing, after the smoke clears and every attempt to falsify them has been rebuffed, can be provisionally accepted as being a reflection of reality.

The Scientific Method is the only way we know of that unlocks the real world’s secrets. As a result of that immense difficulty very few hypotheses survive attacks by skeptics.

That is as it should be. If finding answers was easy we wouldn’t need the Scientific Method. (Note: the Scientific Method REQUIRES dealing with skeptics. But the media censors skeptics; draw your own conclusions).

The UN/IPCC refuses to abide by the Scientific Method: despite the fact that the IPCC’s man-made global warming hypothesis has been repeatedly falsified, the IPCC continues to indoctrinate the public with the pseudoscientific nonsense that constantly rains down on us, 24/7/365.

The IPCC ignores the verdict of the real world. That means the IPCC is indoctrinating the public with fake ‘science’ rather than following the Scientific Method. Big Media perpetuates the IPCC’s pseudoscience, and we are the targets of their conspiracy.

That’s my fact-based conclusion. Feel free to present your own.

    /rant; YMMV.

Thanks, there are very few people who stand up to denying green energy. Thanks for the good tips. I do pass them on.

    • RJ says:

The documentary linked in the article is from liberal/progressive Michael Moore and it absolutely dismantles the green energy myth. It is really good and should be watched by anyone regardless of their political beliefs or preconceived notions. And I say this as someone who cares deeply about the environment and earth. But the green thing is all just another sham from the usual suspects of oligarchs and corporations and corruption. The only real renewable / green energy is hydropower, but they can’t spin up a bunch of silly industry and scams around that so no new hydropower is being built, instead they actively remove dams in the USA because of extinct fish, and cram a bunch of environment destroying ‘solutions’ on us that enrich the usual suspects with endless subsidies and scams for things that destroy the environment like water poisoning fracking, clear cutting biomass, rainforest destroying carbon credits, coal mining and plastic polluting solar, etc.

Has anyone else noticed they replaced all concerns about the environment, pollution, toxic chemicals, etc, with the ‘climate change’ thing and have effectively dismantled the actual environmental movement? As an true original environmentalist myself (meaning I actually care about water and air quality and maintaining natural places as natural), I am appalled by this bait and switch. And everyone is going along for the ride, harming all of us – look at Europe and prices to heat homes! Look at price of gas for cars! Normal people suffer from this stuff, not the a-holes controlling the world!.

As George Carlin said, “it’s a big club, and you ain’t in it!”

I have iPhone 14 Pro Max and iOS version is 16.3 but that option is not available on my phone. BTW I live in Canada. Is that because of that?

    Thank

  6. BOB STERN says:

I was surprised and irritated when I saw that message for the first time.

I have solar panels on my roof but the iPhone didn’t know that.

  7. carl Yee says:

I turned it off and will leave it off. Man made GW is a nonsense, control issue. No empirical evidence that CO2 even can control the climate other than in some gross way.
