If you ever find that Siri is cutting you off in the middle of you issuing a command to the virtual assistance, you may want to change the “Siri Pause Time” setting to a longer duration of time.

You can easily adjust how long Siri will pause for a command on the iPhone or iPad, which can help if Siri is not getting the full command request or not completing a note, reminder, or other task that you ask of it. This is also a useful setting to adjust if you speak slower than Siri expects, or if you’re using Siri in another language that is not your native tongue and tend to speak slower as well.

How to Make Siri Listen for Commands Longer on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Settings app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “Accessibility”
  3. Go to “General”
  4. Go to “Siri”
  5. Under “Siri Pause Time”, choose one of the available options: Default, Longer, Longest

For some users, the default setting is too aggressive and they find that Siri is cutting them off and only getting part of the command. This can be particularly annoying with making notes or setting reminders via Siri, since what you are asking to be jotted down may be cut off, but it applies to all Siri commands.

Choosing a longer pause time setting for Siri may have a side effect of appearing to make Siri slower to respond, but that’s because it is listening longer, not because Siri itself is performing at a different speed. Just be aware of this, since you may find that to be noticeable particularly with the “Longest” setting.

Don’t forget to check out many more Siri tips if you use the virtual assistant. While it’s no ChatGPT, Siri has deep integration into the operating system, enabling some very useful commands and capabilities that are just not possible with any of the other chat bots or artificial intelligence agents out there.
