Apple has released iOS 16.5 for all eligible iPhone users, and iPadOS 16.5 for iPad. The software update includes mostly bug fixes, but also includes a few minor changes and additions.

Specifically, iOS 16.5 includes a new LGTBQ+ pride celebration wallpaper, along with a “Sports” tab for News app, and the ability to start screen recordings with Siri. Bug fixes for Podcasts with Carplay, Spotlight freezing, and Screen Time issues are also included in iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5. The full release notes are further below.

Separately, Apple has also released MacOS Ventura 13.4, macOS Monterey 12.6.6, and macOS Big Sur 11.7.7 for Mac, and updates to HomeOS, watchOS, and tvOS for HomePod, Apple Watch, and Apple TV, respectively.

How to Download & Install iOS 16.5 / iPadOS 16.5

Before installing any system software update, be sure to, backup iPhone or iPad to iCloud, Finder, or iTunes.

  1. Open the “Settings” app on iPhone or iPad
  2. Go to “General”
  3. Go to “Software Update”
  4. Select to “Download and Install” for iOS 16.5 / iPadOS 16.5

Installing iOS 16.5 or iPadOS 16.5 will require the iPhone or iPad to restart to complete installation.

While you can manually install the update, remember that auto-installing iOS updates is re-enabled by default from 16.4 onward, meaning your iPhone/iPad will likely attempt to install the update on its own in the evening when possible, unless you changed that setting.

Users can also manually install the iOS 16.5/iPadOS 16.5 update through Finder on a Mac, or on a Windows PC. Additionally, advanced users can choose to manually update iOS with firmware files.
