MacOS Beta and iOS Beta

Apple has released the second beta versions of MacOS Sierra 10.12.3 and iOS 10.2.1 to users enrolled in the beta testing programs.

Users participating in the beta programs can download iOS 10.2.1 beta 2 and MacOS Sierra 10.12.3 beta 2 from the software update mechanisms on their respective devices.

iOS 10.2.1 is likely to focus exclusively on bug fixes and minor adjustments. No major new features are expected in MacOS 10.12.3 though it too will presumably focus on bug fixes, perhaps addressing some of the persisting issues with Sierra experienced by some Mac users.

On a vaguely related and certainly interesting note, a recent Bloomberg report mentioned that Apple no longer has a dedicated team of software engineers working on the Mac operating system:

“Apple re-organized its software engineering department so there’s no longer a dedicated Mac operating system team. There is now just one team, and most of the engineers are iOS first, giving the people working on the iPhone and iPad more power. “

Apple typically goes through multiple beta builds before releasing a final version of system software to the public.

Could you please mention the build number in your articles? My iPhone is running the beta1 of 10.2.1, and for some reason, this beta2 isn’t pushed (yet?) at it.

Sometimes, some devices already run a specific bug correction or enhancement, based on the region you live in (Western Europe, in my case), and the update isn’t deemed necessary by Apple, hence its absence in Software Update…
