Mac Setups: Desk of a Web Developer & Graphic Designer
This weeks featured Mac setup comes to us from Skyler N., a web developer and graphic designer who has a great desk full of Apple gear. Let’s get right to it…
What hardware does your Mac setup consist of?
The desk includes the following:
- MacBook Pro 15″ with Retina Display (2013 model)
- Apple 27” Cinema Display
- iPad 4
- iPhone 5S on a OC Dock Mini
- Wacom Intuos 4
- Bose Companion 3 Series
- Lacie 2TB External Hard Drive
- Apple Wireless Keyboard
- Apple Trackpad
Is there a specific reason you chose that setup?
This setup allows me to use the keyboard and Wacom table without moving things around. It’s seamless and saves a lot of time. A deep desk is required for this setup though.
What do you use your setup for?
All this Apple gear is used mainly for web development, graphic design and marketing.
What apps do you use most often?
My most used Mac software consists of:
- Adobe Creative Cloud
- Final Cut Pro X
- Safari, Firefox, Chrome
- MailAPP
- BusyCal
- Messages
- Spotify
- Evernote
- Alfred
- Dropbox
- Droplr
- Knock
- 1Password
That should be good.
Do you have any productivity tricks you want to share?
If I were to offer any tips, it would be to utilize Alfred and 1Password, they save me tons of time. There are some great articles out there explaining the best ways to use these services together (editors note: here’s a good guide for Alfred from Lifehacker, and an excellent review of 1Password from MacStories).
I recommend using 2 monitors depending on the type of work you do. I also use the Spaces feature of OS X a lot. I set up specific applications on specific spaces to make things cleaner and easier to get things done.
I love my setup, hope you guys like it too.
