display sms character count iphone

You can have your iPhone display the character count of text messages by enabling an option within the settings, here’s how:

  • Tap on Settings
  • Tap on Messages
  • Tap the slider next to ‘Character Count’ to the ON position

This is useful if you like to send SMS notifications to Twitter, or you’re just concerned about the general length of your texts.

While you’re in the message settings, you’ll notice the option to turn on iPhone Group Messaging, which effectively lets you text up to 100 people for the price of one SMS. It’s a fun feature but as of now it looks to be limited to AT&T.
