The New iPad

The new iPad has been announced by Apple! As expected, it has an amazing retina display, a big performance boost, and a new model with high-speed 4G LTE capabilities alongside the standard Wi-Fi fare. Here are some more details of the latest iPad:

iPad 3 Features & Specs

Here is what we know about the next iPad:

  • Retina display, with a resolution of 2048×1536, 3.1 million pixels at 264ppi
  • A5X Processor, quad-core graphics
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 5 megapixel iSight camera
  • 1080p video recording
  • Voice dictation, similar to Siri without the questions
  • 3G & 4G LTE connectivity
  • 10 hour battery life, 9 hour battery on 4G
  • 9.4mm thick, weighs 1.4lbs
  • Pre-orders start TODAY, available on March 16
  • iOS 5.1

4G support comes to both Verizon and AT&T. Outside of the USA, 4G LTE will also be offered on Rogers, Bell, and Telus initially, presumably with more carriers to come down the road. The iPad can also be used as a personal hotspot with it’s 4G speeds, although the price of that varies per carrier.

New iPad 3 Prices

Both black & white models will be available, as usual:

New iPad with Wi-Fi Prices

  • 16GB Wi-Fi – $499
  • 32GB Wi-Fi – $599
  • 64GB Wi-Fi – $699

New iPad with 4G LTE Prices

  • 16GB 4G LTE – $629
  • 32GB 4G LTE – $729
  • 64GB 4G LTE – $829

(Officially, the new iPad is called “iPad” and referred to as the “3rd generation” model, but many people will call it iPad 3 anyway.)

Wanted a tablet for work purposes, pretty much came down to the iPad or the Samsung 10.1 – since the Samsung was not easily available locally had to go with iPad.

Great graphics but oversold as a tablet computer, more of a giant iPod. No USB, limited connectivity, no native network file browser means limited use in network environments

The new iPad isn’t much more than the iPad 2, but since I went from a first generation to the most current tablet, I definitely noticed a difference. I think the feature that sold me the most was the Retina Display. Sure, the graphics processor and the wireless service is faster, but the screen is what I come in contact with most, and it always looks good. Books are sharper, apps run better, and even movies look as good, if not, better than on my HDTV at home. One of my favorite applications that takes advantage of the Retina Display is the DISH Remote Access app. It lets me stream live TV and even recorded shows from my DVR to my iPad anywhere I am. The other day at DISH, a few co-workers and I were watching Discovery Channel live on my iPad. I am always amazed at how the picture looks just as good on my iPad as it would at home.

do anyone knows if the new ipad 4g can make phone calls with the sim card or no? and if no can the ipad wifi only make calls via viber ? and if yes how it can make with no sim what will be the number you will call to :)? thanks :)

    • Paul says:

No the iPad doesn’t work as an iPhone directly, but you can always download an app like Skype or Google Voice and make phone calls with that through VOIP.

Serious question for everyone here what’s so great about this tablet that could not have been implemented in ipad 2 or hell even ipad 1? The processor still only clocks up to 1 ghz and all they are trying to do is confuse the shit out of people I am not even sure is there a separate graphics processor in this or are they actually claiming that the a5x which is dual core will outperform tegra 3 which is quad core. Does this sound like corporate bullsh*t to anyone other than me? Still no flash support? Still no micro sd? Still no usb? Please some one tell me what’s so new about this garbage other than a slightly improved display. Apple makes it seem like that the whole populace is getting glaucoma and its so essential to bring out a new product solely based on slightly better resolution and processor speed than the previous product? And then the camera, 5 megapixel…I mean this is basically a 3rd generation device a 5 megapixel camera should have been included in the ipad 1. 2 words Corporate Greed.

    • cici says:

I agree with you. Apple device is great technology to have but the down side like u mentioned…theres no flash support, no usb port and ect…

      • hatlesssandman says:

in my opinion their tablet market viability is pretty much gone for consumers can’t say much for business side as I’m a med student but if u look at the specs of the transformer prime they are mind boggling tablet technology has gotten so advanced that apple just doesn’t seem it will be able to catch up anymore. But again fans will be fans and I guess there is nothing wrong with that but now apple tablets are definitely inferior to latest tablets coming out now I sincerely hope apple proves me wrong and start caring about their customers I was an owner of the original ipad but switched to the thinkpad tablet last year due to ntrig pen digitizer as it was way more productive for a student.

Where’s Siri? I’m sure that some people are disappointed not to see this function from this new device. But still, it’s a great tablet considering that Apple has improved their retina display to 2048 x 1536. And too bad not everyone can use the 4G, including our country.

  22. Steve says:

    Not Retina!
I’m not holding my iPad at 15″, so it’s definitely not the same quality as an iPhone 4.
I will keep my iPad 1st generation as long as they don’t provide 320+ dpi.
Still, I’ll take a look in an Apple Store, but I doubt it’s worth it in that case, 260 dpi is not good quality. Look at 300dpi printers: the text is pixelated.
