Release dates for iOS 12 and macOS Mojave

Apple has announced the official release dates for the bevy of new system software updates coming this fall, including iOS 12, macOS Mojave 10.14, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12.

The new software versions mean that if you have a reasonably new Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Apple Watch, or Apple TV, you’ll be gaining new features and functionalities on your devices soon.


Users who are currently running one of the public beta or developer beta builds of iOS 12 or macOS Mojave will be able to update directly to the final versions when they are released to the public.

iOS 12 will be released and available to the general public on September 17. The update will be available free as a download through the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad, or through iTunes if one of those devices is connected to a computer.

iOS 12 focuses on performance improvements, but also includes a variety of new features including Screen Time which lets you set time limits for app usage, a new Siri Shortcuts capability that allows you to automate tasks with Siri, improvements to default apps like Photos, Stocks, iBooks, and Voice Memos, improvements to notifications management, and more.

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch owners can check the iOS 12 compatibility list to see if their device is supported.

macOS Mojave Release Date is September 24

macOS Mojave 10.14 will be released for Mac users on September 24. The new system software version will be available through the Mac App Store Updates tab as a free download.

MacOS Mojave features an all new optional Dark Theme mode, a new desktop Stacks feature that helps to tidy and organize a cluttered desktop, new Finder view options, new screenshot tools, a redesigned Mac App Store, and the inclusion of various new apps from the iOS world on the Mac platform including Stocks and Voice Memos.

Mac users can check their hardware on the macOS Mojave compatible Macs list to see if their computers will run the latest operating system.

WatchOS 5 release date is September 17

Apple Watch users can download WatchOS 5 on September 17 through the paired iPhone, via the Apple Watch app.

WatchOS 5 features new workout options, activity competition features, the inclusion of the podcasts app, and a fun Walkie-Talkie feature that lets you live chat with other Apple Watch users.

TvOS 12 release date is September 17

tvOS 12 will be available for Apple TV owners on September 17 as well, available through the tvOS Settings app.

tvOS 12 includes new Space screen savers, password auto-fill, and improved sign-on capabilities.

Each of these announcements came directly from Apple during the same event where the company launched the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and new Apple Watch. The new iPhone and Apple Watch hardware will be shipping later at various points in September and October.
