MacOS Catalina beta

Apple has released MacOS Catalina beta 7 to users enrolled in the developer beta testing program. The accompanying public beta will likely arrive soon after.

Mac users enrolled in the MacOS Catalina beta testing program can find the latest software update available now from the Software Update section of the System Preferences application.

Usually a developer beta build is issued first and is quickly followed by a public beta release.

MacOS Catalina includes a handful of new features including the ability to use an iPad as an external display, updates to main apps like Notes, Reminders, Photos, the splitting of iTunes into three separate apps for Music and Podcasts and TV, a new screen saver, tightened security and system restrictions, the removal of 32-bit application support, and much more.

Anyone can technically try out the beta fo Catalina if interested, you can read how to install MacOS Catalina public beta here.

Because beta system software is less reliable than final builds, it is only recommended this be used by advanced users with full backups, and preferably on secondary devices, though you can dual boot and run macOS Catalina alongside MacOS Mojave with an APFS volume as well.

Apple has said that MacOS Catalina, iOS 13, and iPadOS 13 will be released this fall.
