Apple holiday ad for 2019 commercial

Apple has released their annual Holiday commercial for 2019, and as is usually the case, it’s touching and sentimental.

This years advertisement is about three minutes long and focuses on a family of four traveling to see their grandfather for Christmas. The short film shows the typical family traveling endeavors with children in cars and planes, complete with bantering siblings who are sometimes distracted by using an iPad, where they soon arrive at their grandfathers house who is mourning the recent loss of his wife. The two daughters proceed to engage in goofy antics that annoy the adults, like dressing up the grandfathers dog in apparel and jewelry. The climax of the advertisement is when the two girls present a thoughtful iPad created slideshow of memories of their whole family together.

It’s sappy, touching, and may be a bit of a tear-jerker, so enjoy the Apple Holiday ad for the 2019 season!

The full commercial has been posted below for easy viewing, but it’ll likely start airing on TV and the web now through the end of the holiday season.

The song playing as the background soundtrack to the ad is “Married Life” by Michael Giacchino, which may sound familiar to you if you’ve seen the (excellent) movie ‘Up!’.

The video posted by Apple to YouTube has the following tagline as the description; “Sometimes, the best gifts can come from the most unexpected places.”

If you’re in the market for gifting an iPad this holiday season, Amazon is selling the newest 10.2″ iPad for only $249, discounted down from $329. The entry level iPad is a fantastic device and is arguably one of the best deals in the Apple product lineup.

I felt second-hand embarrassment when the grandpa opened up the present and was treated to a PowerPoint presentation about his dead wife. And considering there were groans and awkward laughter at the Cinema I saw it in when the Apple logo revealed itself at the end, I think it’s safe to say I wasn’t the only one. The ad missed it’s mark.

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss Ken.

This Apple commercial may be a little too negative especially for Christmas, usually they are uplifting and happy. Memories can be uplifting, but what a sad subject for a commercial… I can only imagine how sad it would be to go through any of these scenarios. Did anyone at Apple think about how sad this commercial could be for some folks? Is it worth making people sad to sell a tablet?

I’m really sorry to hear about your situation Ken, that makes me empathetic of you and I can understand why an advertisement like this would be a bad reminder. I haven’t experienced your specific situation and can only imagine that tragedy, but I do how heavy loss feels in the heart, so I am sorry you have to experience anything like that.

I’m thinking of you this Holiday season, Ken, and I wish you the best. Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. Keep your head up.

      – Gary
