Here is how you can quit an open program via the OS X Command Tab application switcher panel:

* Enter the Application Switcher by hitting Command+Tab

* Using tab or your mouse, navigate to the application(s) you want to quit while still holding the Command key

* Press “Q” to quit the application that you are hovered over

Viewing the application switcher and browsing inside with the mouse or the the Tab key while holding Command key down works perfectly.
But to quit an application, users of french keyboards should remind pressing down the “A” key, which lies in place of the “Q” key of UK-english, US-english or some other keyboards.
