iOS 17 Beta 2 Download Available Now
Apple has released iOS 17 beta 2 and iPadOS 17 beta 2 to users actively participating in the beta testing programs for system software.
Anyone can install iOS 17 beta or install iPadOS 17 beta right now by enrolling in the Apple Developer program, which is now free.
New features in iOS 17 include customizable Contact Posters for the phone app, NameDrop to easily exchange contact information between iPhones, interactive widgets, FaceTime video voicemail, live transcripts for voicemail, Safari Profiles which allow you to setup separate Safari environments for things like work and personal, and much more.
iPadOS 17 has new features specific to the iPad like the ability to customize the Lock Screen, interactive widgets, new Stage Manager options, Health app comes to iPad, and nearly all of the features from iOS 17 as well, and more.
How to Download iOS 17 Beta 2 / iPadOS 17 Beta 2
Assuming you’re already enrolled in the beta testing programs on your device, downloading the latest beta is simple:
- Open the “Settings” app
- Go to “General” and to “Software Update”
- Choose to Download and Install when iOS 17 Beta 2 / iPadOS 17 Beta 2 shows as available to download
It’s important to remember that beta system software is buggy and less stable than final releases, so the iOS 17 beta and iPadOS 17 beta should be used only by advanced users who have comfort with beta operating systems. Nonetheless, anyone can enroll their Apple ID to participate in the Apple Developer beta program if they’re interested in doing so. You can read more about installing iOS 17 developer beta on iPhone or installing iPadOS 17 developer beta on iPad if that compels you.
If you’re a more casual user who is interested in testing out iOS 17 and iPadOS 17, the public betas will be available in July, according to Apple. The normal caveats still apply however, and you may experience suboptimal performance, reduced battery life, crashes, and other odd behavior.
The final version of iOS 17 for iPhone and iPadOS 17 for iPad will be released this fall.
Any reason why public beta 2 would not be showing up on my iPad now that it is released? Does it just take a few days sometimes?
Thanks,
Mark
I’m running public beta IOS 17 on my iPad. I understand that Public Beta 2 is now out but it is not showing up under General/Software Update. Any thoughts on why not?
Thanks,
Mark
