tvOS 18

tvOS 18 includes some intriguing new features that aim to improve your Apple TV experience, including Enhance Dialogue to make it easier to hear voices and dialog in shows and movies, Live Captions offers live transcripts of FaceTime calls on Apple TV, new screen savers, new Fitness features, Home app guest access, and more.

If you’re an advanced Apple TV user, you might be interested in installing the tvOS 18 beta onto your Apple TV, which can be done rather easily and by anyone in a similar way that anyone can install iOS 18 beta on iPhone.

You’ll need to have your Apple ID enrolled in the beta program from Apple to get access to tvOS 18 beta, which you’ve almost certainly already done for iOS 18 beta, iPadOS 18 beta, or macOS Sequoia beta. If for whatever reason you haven’t done that already, go to https://developer.apple.com/programs/enroll/ to begin that simple process.

tvOS 18 Compatible Devices List

tvOS 18 is compatible with the following Apple TV devices:

  • Apple TV HD (2015)
  • Apple TV 4K (2017)
  • Apple TV 4K (2nd Generation) (2021)
  • Apple TV 4K (3rd Generation) (2022)

As you can see, tvOS 18 compatibility is broad and extends back to nearly decade old hardware, making it much more broadly compatible compared to the other new betas.

How to Install tvOS 18 Beta on Apple TV

Assuming you’ve enrolled your Apple ID in the beta program, here’s how you can access the tvOS 18 developer beta:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on Apple TV
  2. Go to “System”
  3. Select “Software Updates”
  4. Select “Beta Updates”
  5. Select “tvOS 18 Developer Beta”
  6. Back at the Software Updates screen, choose to download and install tvOS 18 beta on the Apple TV

Soon your Apple TV will restart and you’ll be running tvOS 18 beta.

You’re ready to use the new features and explore, but it is a beta so it’s important to remember that not everything will work as expected, and there may be some stability and compatibility issues.

Future beta updates come through the standard tvOS update mechanism.
