Snowy brings falling snow and Christmas lights twinkling on your Mac desktop

If you ever wished your Mac could feel a bit more seasonal and festive for the holidays and Christmas, you might just appreciate a fun app called Snowy. Snowy brings falling snow, twinkling Christmas lights, and some holiday ambiance, directly to your Mac desktop. You can have dangling twinkling Christmas lights hanging from your menu bar, while snow falls and blows around your screen.

And Snowy for Mac is free, so if you’re just looking for a bit of holiday cheer, there’s no commitment other than a download to use the fun little app. Get Snowy on your Mac, and if you feel up for it you can put Christmas Lights on your iPhone with Festivitas too, decorating all of your Apple gear as you please.

Snowy resides in the menu bar where you can make some customizations on the type of lights, light colors and twinkling patterns, and you can make adjustments to the falling snow as well. There’s even a wallpaper option if you’d like to use the included wallpaper.

Snowy app options for Mac

One curiosity about Snowy is the virtual snow is always moving in a large circular pattern, with the snow coming in from the top right, falling down for a bit, before drifting off and falling towards the bottom right again, creating a sort of stormy effect.

There’s basically no notable performance hit to running Snowy, so if you’re looking to decorate your Mac a bit for the holidays and without disrupting your workflow, it’s a fun little app to play around with. Snowy obviously isn’t a productivity tool, though perhaps having some seasonal moodiness on your Mac could incentivize you in one way or another.

Snowy is a fun app and it achieves what it set out to; be a lightweight and fun little Mac app that adds some holiday magic and seasonal cheer to your Mac desktop. With falling snow and blinking Christmas lights, it certainly makes your Mac feel a bit more cozy and festive, so give it a try if you’re into this kind of thing.

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas! And don’t forget you can watch Charlie Brown Christmas this weekend free with Apple TV through your device or streaming on the web, so enjoy that too.
