Apple Posts ‘Pride’ Video, Emphasizes Support for Equality & Diversity
Apple has posted a new video to the web titled “Pride”, which shows the companies participation in the annual San Francisco Pride Parade. The event, which celebrates equality and diversity with an emphasis on LBGT rights, was attended by Apple CEO Tim Cook and thousands of other Apple employees. Each Apple employee wore t-shirts specifically made for the event, with a rainbow outlined variation of the Apple logo and the text “Pride” underneath.
The text accompanying the video says the following:
“On June 29, thousands of Apple employees and their families marched in the San Francisco Pride Parade. They came from around the world — from cities as far as Munich, Paris, and Hong Kong — to celebrate Apple’s unwavering commitment to equality and diversity. Because we believe that inclusion inspires innovation.”
The two minute video ends with the words “Inclusion inspires innovation” and the restyled Apple logo. The full short movie is embedded below for those interested in watching it:
A recent Wall Street Journal profile of CEO Tim Cook highlights how the companies leader is more outwardly concerned about societal issues than his predecessor, Steve Jobs:
“Mr. Cook also is concerned about Apple’s impact on society. He has pushed Apple to become more environmentally friendly, such as having Apple’s data centers run on renewable energy sources, and be more responsible in how it procures parts and materials for its products. Mr. Cook implemented an employee donation-matching program, a step Mr. Jobs long resisted, and is a vocal supporter of gay rights.”
Cook is also known to use Twitter to support various related issues, earlier this year he tweeted at US politicians suggesting they pass ENDA:
The House should mark the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act by passing ENDA. @SpeakerBoehner @GOPLeader @NancyPelosi @WhipHoyer

,Enjoy your “pride” while you can. This wont last forever unfortunatelly for you. Same liberal force which helped you to get your “rights”, also helps other minorities to bully majority. One of them is Muslims, these are not gay friendly.
Note: Microsoft and Google and Adobe also have employees marching in Pride parades, and they and Amazon are huge corporate supporters of gay rights and same-sex marriage. So if you’re looking for technology that isn’t gay-friendly…maybe you should start seeing what OS and e-reader Belarus is using or something.
The fact is, these days major corporations that rely on the “creative class” can’t hire anyone–gay or straight–if the companies are not supporters of same-sex couples and their families, because people with the requisite skills and education are, typically, extremely tolerant and worldly. Mozilla had to let Eich go because having a homophobe in charge is no way to recruit tech workers and it’s a good way to trigger a boycott from tech users. The days when it was OK to be a homophobe are over. Privately, in your church, have at it. But don’t expect to hold such views and experience no repercussions for your bigotry when it comes to private corporations advancing their own interests, which, not coincidentally, are in everyone’s best interest whether you recognize it yet or not.
cool

Don’t wish to be pedantic but:
Each Apple employee wore t-shirts specifically made for the event …
is nonsense. Either:
Each Apple employee wore a t-shirt specifically made for the event…
or (and perhaps preferably):
Apple employees wore t-shirts specifically made for the event…
Right: I’ll crawl back under my stone.
Enjoy most of your tips, by the way. Thanks
Michael
As long as it doesn’t take their focus of the products they make, I don’t care.

Why should my computer or phone be gay friendly (or homophobic)? This PR stuff is getting really stupid.
So it’s just fine and dandy for Apple to promote gay rights, but it’s not ok for Chick-Fil-A to comment on their position on marriage? Welcome to the hypocritical left.
I agree, Darren. The hypocrisy of the PC left has grown wearisome.
Probably because the Apple CEO is rumored to be gay?
This just goes to show Apple will appease any group of people that has enough money to afford their products.
They would persue a “National Association of Child Moleesters” if such a group existed and the members could afford to buy their stuff.
Human rights and equality are topics that Apple CEO Tim Cook is obviously very passionate about. If you review his Twitter stream, speeches, op-eds, etc, you’ll see them as a reoccurring theme:

He also has defended he and Apple’s positions even to shareholders:

The people in the parade were all Apple employees and family ;)
